Wellness Innovators comprises a team of health care professionals who are very passionate about health education. This three member team consists of a Medical Doctor, Dr. Andre Matthew, a dental hygienist, Ms. Felicia Montoute and a Registered nurse Ms. Naomie “Ngozi” Grandison. Wellness Innovators believe that the best way to change health habits of individuals is through creative and consistent health education. They specialize in delivering integrative health presentations angled from a medical, dental and emotional perspective with the added touch of musical-poetic infusion. The innovative collective have delivered health presentations to the Public Service, Sandals and community groups, and have made appearances on Radio 100, Radio St. Lucia and Newsmaker Live on Daher Broadcastiing Services to discuss various health issues.

Out of concern for the youth increased engagement in a number of violent, sexually explicit and substance abuse acts, Wellness Innovators have embarked on an initiative to help the youth place greater value in themselves. The title of the campaign is “I Am Beautiful” inspired by acoustic song writing and sung by Ngozi, the nurse on the team. One must first think, feel and recognize their beauty to take care of their health. The team hopes to remind students of ALL secondary schools that they have been blessed with unique beauty and they should value and respect it by taking care of themselves. A thirty minute audio visual presentation on Sexually Transmitted Infection, Dental Care and Emotional Health along with a musical element will be delivered to students at their general assembly.

The “I Am Beautiful” Campaign consists of 3 components; the investigative, educational and student involvement component. Before the team goes to the school a select group of students are given  questionnaires to gain information on their level of awareness on STIs, Dental Care and Emotional Health.  The educational component includes the school visits, radio/TV shows, and the use of internet for dissemination of information. Finally students will be asked to express their beauty in artistic forms, which will be displayed at an exhibition at the end of the campaign. Wellness Innovators have received the support and endorsement of the Ministry of Education, Bureau of Health Promotion and National Printing Corporation.

The Campaign kicked off with the first school being, Sir Ira Simmons Secondary School, on Monday 11th October, 2010 at the general assembly at 8:15 am. Students were entertained with a musical poetic performance from Ms. Montoute and Ngozi, members of the team. Dr Andre Matthew spoke clearly on the dangers of Sexually Transmitted Infections; Ms Montoute explain the negatives of having an unhealthy smile and Nurse and vocalist Ms Grandison ended the presentation by reminding the students to care for their emotional health and ending with the song, “I Am Beautiful”.
